Questions to Ask When Renting a Forklift

April 15, 2020 by Meg Crone

Before renting a forklift, no matter the cause, make sure to communicate thoroughly and efficiently with us so that we can provide you with what works best for you and your needs.

  1. Where will I be using this forklift?

There are forklifts that are designed to be just used inside on smooth surfaces and there are forklifts that are designed to be used both inside and outside or on uneven or rough surfaces. You can also rent a forklift based upon the aisles in your warehouse. Do you have narrow aisles? By giving us an accurate description of where you will be using your forklift, we can set you up with exactly what you need!

  1. How much weight do I need to lift?

It is important to know the weight of your heaviest load when renting a forklift. Most forklifts have 5000lb capacity, but when you begin to add attachments it can reduce that capacity. Make sure to know how much weight you plan to lift.

  1. How high do I need to lift?

If you raise a load higher than the forklift is designed to, you may tip over. This is extremely important because tipping over can cause serious damage, injury and possibly death. Be sure to have an accurate measurement of how high you need your forklift to lift.

  1. Do I have a trained forklift operator?

It is required by OSHA that anyone who operates a forklift must be certified and properly trained. We provide forklift training if you do not have an employee certified.

  1. How long do I need to rent a forklift?

Be sure to communicate with the The Lilly Company how long you plan to use our rental so that you do not get penalized for overtime use.

The Lilly Company is here to take care of all of your rental needs!
