Big Man on Campus: The Best-Selling Utility Vehicles for Campuses
Steve Jones Oct 25, 2024 6:59:29 AM
The average American spends nearly 60% of their workday walking. For maintenance and repair crews, that's a productivity killer. Moreover, it's why utility vehicles are more than a luxury for colleges, universities, and corporate campuses. They're vital. Yet, utility vehicles aren't just street legal golf carts. These machines have to be as resilient and reliable as your team. So, if you want to boost productivity on your campus, read on to learn about our best-selling utility vehicles.
Cushman Utility Vehicles
Cushman vehicles have a decades-long history of durability and dependability, making them exceptional workhorses for any busy campus. Whatever the job, there's a Cushman utility vehicle that'll tackle it. However, two models are by far the most popular on both commercial and college campuses.
Cushman Hauler 1200
The gas-powered Hauler 1200 is the go-to machine for many repair crews. The customizable bed can carry up to 800 lbs loads, even with two passengers, for a maximum weight rating of 1,200 lbs. The bed design can fit optional dividers to segment loads and prevent shifting during travel. Additionally, the ladder rack option makes it a wonderful choice for maintenance crews.
The Hauler 1200 comes with:
- A rear hitch
- A 6.65-gallon, 13.5 hp engine
- 1,500 lbs. towing capacity
- An easy-to-refuel side-fill gas tank
Cushman Hauler Pro
The Hauler Pro is the zero-emission counterpart to the 1200. This Cushman electric cart features all the power of the Hauler 1200, including the 800 lbs bed capacity and 1,500 lbs towing. It has a zero-maintenance ELiTE lithium-ion battery powered by Samsung SDI technology for performance and reliability. Standard features like the automatic parking brake make it safer. At the same time, the 15-cubic-foot aluminum cargo bed allows it to handle even the most rugged loads. Better still, options like the electric bed lift improve productivity and reduce operator injury.
Low Speed Vehicle Upgrade. The Hauler Pro also comes in a street legal low speed vehicle (LSV) variant. This model is best when you need your utility vehicle to operate on public roads. The Hauler Pro LSV meets FMVSS 500 and SAE j2358 federal safety standards. With this rating, it can drive up to 25 mph on roads with up to 35 mph speed limits.
Vantage Electric Vehicles
Vantage electric vehicles are a fantastic option for campuses that want to protect their drivers from the elements but also want to go green. Each of their electric LSVs comes standard with a fully enclosed cabin, door locks, radio, MP3 plug-in, heaters, and adjustable seats. These are great for college campuses as they prioritize driver comfort while keeping university pranksters out of the driver's seat. While all their models are among some of the best LSVs, two of their V9 series utility vehicles really stand out.
Vantage LiV9DX
The LiV9DX features a two-person extended cab with fold-down bedsides, making it an exceptional equipment hauler for independent or partnered work. The 40 hp motor can carry a gross weight of 3,000 lbs at speeds up to 25 mph. This electric LSV has a 30 mile range with the standard 100 Ah battery pack but can upgrade to a 50 mile range with the 180 Ah battery pack. Either battery fully charges in as little as 4 hours, giving this powerhouse the juice it needs to work all day, every day.
Vantage LiV9DR
The most significant difference between the LiV9DR and the DX is passenger capacity. The DR has a crew cab that seats up to five. It retains the 3000 lbs carrying capacity, speed, battery range, and charging speeds of the DX but fits them all in a slightly smaller vehicle. This makes it easier to maneuver on crowded campuses.
Additionally, the optional upgrade package for the V9 series electric LSVs includes power windows, power door locks, a 9-inch infotainment display, backup and dash cameras, and air conditioning to keep drivers cool during those sticky Southern summers.
